Staff Report

A five-run fifth inning lifted the Screven County Lady Gamecocks to an 8-4 win over the South Effingham Lady Mustangs in a non-region softball game Wednesday.

Ashton Collins went 2-for-3 and Mallory Ferguson was 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Lady Mustangs, who slipped to 7-2 on the year with a second straight loss to the Lady Gamecocks.

South Effingham trailed 3-0 before scoring four runs in the top of the fifth. But the Lady Gamecocks answered with their big rally to take the lead back for good.

Lauren Thomas and Rochelle Shuman each went 2-for-3. Shuman also drove in a run in support of winning pitcher Dawn Stewart.

Emily Parker got the loss for South Effingham.

South Effingham will visit Effingham County on Tuesday.
