Cambridge ends Lady Mustangs’ season

The South Effingham volleyball team’s push for the Class AAAAA Elite Eight ended at Cambridge High School, as the host Lady Bears downed the Lady Mustangs in three sets in their second-round playoff matchup. Cambridge won 25-21, 25-4 and 29-27 to end South Effingham’s season at 39-12-1. Shae Leverett paced South Effingham with nine kills, and Faith Harris added eight. Leverett and Emma Williams each tallied two blocks, Harris and Tessa Cormack posted 11 digs each, Brandi Wooten recorded eight digs and Leverett had seven digs. Williams also had 11 assists and five digs. Morgan Dewalt notched six digs, and Isabel Granat had five digs. Sterling Hines led Cambridge with 16 kills, and Lauren Swift recorded 10 kills. Eileen Hardy had four aces, Regan Swift had nine blocks and Ellah Kinnert registered seven kills. Hines had 18 digs, Alex Wright logged 17 digs, Anna Youngs had 15 digs and Paige Petersen added 10 digs. Shelby Luxton led Cambridge with 20 assists, and Olivia Hansen had 16 assists. Cambridge advanced to the state semifinals with a 3-0 win over Harris County.
