Wilson named region player of the year

Effingham County High School senior shortstop Shelby Wilson was named the Region 3-AAAAA softball player of the year, in voting conducted by region coaches. Wilson hit .420 with six home runs and 13 RBIs in her final season at ECHS. Two South Effingham players — senior second baseman Autumn Conaway and sophomore catcher Cason Smith — were named to the all-region first team. Effingham County and South Effingham each had five players selected as honorable mention. Making the list from ECHS were Carli Royal, Kaitlyn Kelly, Bailee Wilson, Cevanna Wood and Kaylee Kessler. The Lady Mustangs named as honorable mention were Katelynn Hodges, Logan Edenfield, Bri Lawson, Mallori Jenkins and Alexa Johanson. Sam Mault of Richmond Hill was named region pitcher of the year, and Richmond Hill’s Angie Hummeldort was named region coach of the year.
