SEHS boys, ECHS girls complete sweeps

The Effingham County girls soccer team made it a sweep of its in-county rivals with a 4-1 win Friday at ECHS, and the South Effingham boys finished a season sweep of the ECHS boys. Megan Wright notched the lone South Effingham goal as the Lady Mustangs fell to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in Region 3-AAAAA. Effingham improved to 7-2-1 on the season and 3-2 in the region. South Effingham took the boys match 2-0 to go to 3-3 in the region and 5-3 for the year. Effingham’s boys, who beat Savannah Christian 5-2 last Tuesday, slipped to 6-4 for the year and 2-3 in the region. The Lady Mustangs downed Bradwell Institute 6-0 last Tuesday, as six different players scored. Wright, Sarah Grayson, Kailey Kessler, Madison Thornton, Rachel Croasmun and Jamie Yarbrough each tallied in the win. The Tigers downed the Mustangs boys 3-2. South Effingham will host Statesboro on Friday, with the girls game beginning at 5:30 p.m. and will visit Richmond Hill on April 5. Effingham County will host Richmond Hill on Thursday at 5 p.m. and travel to Bradwell Institute on Tuesday, followed by a game at Windsor Forest on March 30.
