SEHS’ Leverett, ECHS’ Robinson, Wilkenson earn all-state honors

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution placed three Effingham players on its all-state basketball teams. Effingham County senior Deshaun Wilkenson was named to the Class AAAAA boys honorable mention list. Wilkenson averaged 17.1 points per game and also averaged 4.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He shot 47 percent from the field and was a 39 percent shooter from 3-point range. He scored in double figures in 24 of 27 games and had a career-high 37 points in an overtime loss to Butler. South Effingham’s Shae Leverett and Effingham County’s Makayla Robinson were named to the girls Class AAAAA honorable mention team. Leverett, a senior center who has signed with the University of South Florida, averaged 14.6 points per game. Robinson, who has signed with Troy, averaged 21.9 points per game. She also averaged 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.1 steals per game. Robinson shot 39 percent from 3-point range. She had a career-high 43 points in a loss to Camden County and scored in double figures in all 22 games. Richmond Hill’s Isaiah Hill was a boys honorable mention selection, and Brunswick’s Symone Palmer was named to the girls second team. The AJC chose Alterique Gilbert of Miller Grove as the boys Class AAAAA player of the year and Sharman White of Miller Grove as the boys coach of the year. Kamiyah Street of Mays was the Class AAAAA girls player of the year and Brandon Thomas of Winder-Barrow was named the girls coach of the year.
