Four titles claimed at region track meet

Darius Scott of South Effingham won the triple jump, teammate Bryce Griggs won the 800-meter run and Effingham County High School’s Micheal McDonald won the pole vault at the Region 3-AAAAA track meet, held at Statesboro High.

Scott had a best of with a best of 45 feet, 6 inches, and Griggs had a time of 1:58.35.

McDonald’s effort of 13 feet was two feet better than teammate and second-place finisher Phllip Knight.

Jacob Archer took fourth in the discus for SEHS. Justin Dolata of ECHS took fifth in the 3,200 and Jaylen Powell of South Effingham was fifth in the shot put. Orlando Jones of South Effingham was fifth in the long jump.

In the girls competition, Effingham County’s Brooke Burns won the pole vault, turning in a best effort of 9-7, and Marina Van Sickle was second in the 3,200 at 12:34. Burns set the school record in the pole vault with her region effort.

SEHS senior Pricilla Cartwright was second in the 1,600 meters and finished fourth in the 800. The Lady Rebels 4x100 relay team placed third.

Deja House of ECHS was fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.72 and placed fifth in the 800. Olivia Brown was third in the 100 hurdles. Mayte Davis of ECHS was fourth in the discus.

Quadasha Perry of ECHS was fifth in the 200, and South Effingham’s Rashea Williams was fifth in the triple jump.

The state sectionals will be held this week at Heritage High School in Conyers.

The Class AAAAA state girls track meet will be held May 5-7 at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. The boys meet will be held May 12-14 at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson.
