McDonald takes fifth in pole vault at state meet

Effingham County’s Micheal McDonald took fifth-place in the pole vault in the Class AAAAA boys state track meet, held at Jefferson High School.

McDonald had a best of 12 feet, 6 inches. Michael Runyan of Starr’s Mill won the event at 14-6.

South Effingham’s Darius Scott was ninth in the triple jump, turning in a best of 45-7. Rogerous Swain of Cedar Shoals took the triple jump at 47-3.

South Effingham’s Pricilla Cartwright finished 16th in the 1,600-meter run at the Class AAAAA state girls track meet, held at Albany’s Hugh Mills Stadium.

Cartwright finished in 5:34.16. She also had a time of 2:25.47 in qualifying for the 800 meters but did not advance to the finals.

Effingham County High School’s Olivia Brown qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles after breaking her own school record, turning in a time of 14.93 seconds in the preliminaries. She did not finish the finals race.
