Staff Report

The South Effingham Mustangs made the wait worth their while.

The Mustangs, in a game postponed twice because of weather, thumped Swainsboro 12-1 in five innings Tuesday. The win was the third straight for the Mustangs baseball team, which is now 4-5 on the season.

The game between South Effingham and Swainsboro was scheduled originally for March 2 but was postponed. A makeup date also was washed out.

South Effingham scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, four in the fourth and put the game away with three runs in the fifth. The Mustangs banged out 13 hits to support winning pitcher Tony Hunter.

The Tigers, who made seven errors, were held to two hits.

Ryne Huggins went 3-for-4, driving in two runs, and Nick Owen was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Dylan Griffin was 2-for-4 with a double and knocked in two runs, and Tyler Dodd went 2-for-4. South Effingham is averaging 8 runs per game

The Mustangs will host Statesboro today at 6 p.m. and will visit Calvary Day on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
